Where Were You?

Image

When all the world turned to ash..

Where were you

As we spat the gray powder of decay from our mouths

What did you do?

We swiped blood streaked hands across sweaty forheads

Our faces pale in the rising dawn of a dead day

And where were you?

What did you do?

We crawled out from under rubble and debris

Pushed away the walls that caved in on us

Where were you?

What did you do?

One by one we made our way to each other

As we faced the pale pink sky of a day that shouldn’t have come

Where were you?

What did you do?

We left our dead under shattered glass

And shrouds made of plaster

Where were you?

What did you do?

Their unmarked tombs behind us while we stood up

Limbs shaky .. bodies weak

Where were you?

What did you do?

Wordlessly, silently, we moved our way to a cleaner horizon

Leaving a broken, a finished, a never to be remembered day

Where were you ?

What did you do?

As with faces grim we move to rebuild, to be reborn,

To become again what we were before

Where are you?

What will you do?

Inspiring words. I like the way you help us picture your imagery, painted by your words. Vivid.

Yes. We must arise. And assist the fallen to stand. Rebuild. Re-orient the lost and despairing to the Straight Road… inshallah
